My life with Avi
did it really happen or
was it just a dream
Avi's gone two months
I can't remember details
just what love feels like
My life without him
Barely breathing between sobs
I paint my studio
Paint roller in hand
I think how he would have loved
To see me like this

I am of the nature to grow old.
There is no way to escape growing old.
Instead of repressing it, invite it up, look directly at it.
I am of the nature to grow old, I must accept that.
I am of the nature to have ill-health.
When I grow old, I will know it!
There is no way to escape having ill-health.
I am of the nature to die.
There is no way to escape death.
All that is dear to me and everyone I love
are of the nature to change.… Continue

In the chest
in the heart
was the vessel
was the pulse
was the art
was the love
was the clot
small and slow
and the scar
that could not know
the rest of you
was very nearly perfect.

In the car with mom
She: "I wish it had been me"
I: "I understand"

My sister-in-law
Moved to tears by Samir's song
I feel connected
She says that Avi
Drew out what was deep inside
And then applauded
It's two'n the morning
We cry for Avi, stirring
tomorrow's oatmeal
Now it's eight am
Breakfast table's set for three
That makes eleven
Same walk in the park
Why are we just three, not four
Passer-by's are quizzed.
He runs in the park
He asks: where is your…

First time in so long
My tiny mother unhugged
She took it standing

At breakfast table
Your chair relentlessly bare
Hot oatmeal no more

You have not been gone
Just stepped out for a while
I think you're still here
Maybe a bird flying

A Meeting
In a dream I meet
my dead friend. He has,
I know, gone long and far,
and yet he is the same
for the dead are changeless.
They grow no older.
It is I who have changed,
grown strange to what I was.
Yet I, the changed one,
ask: "How have you been?"
He grins and looks at me.
"I have been eating peaches
off some mighty fine trees."

Avi loved this writing The Great Way, from Hsin Hsin Ming, the Book of Nothing, by Sosan. Here is just the beginning … for full text go to ... www.deeshan.com/sosan.htm
The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart. If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinion for or against. The struggle of what…

Sunday nite, after telling mom that I'd been having dreams of dad but nothing impactful yet, I dreamt that I was in an academic setting taking a class in a big room filled with students. The professor asked me to the front of the class to demonstrate a point he was making. I stood before him, a non~descript academic type with glasses and stuffy clothes. He then took a dancing partner stance and told me we would dance to demonstrate. "Dance? I asked. Like Dancing with the Stars?" And BAM! In a…

I found this beautiful poem in the house and I want to share it with you. I do not know who wrote it (would you please reveal yourself?), but it speaks so deeply for all of us...
Words Like Bells
Echoing Reminders Of How I Want
To Live My Life
Hand Movements Like Paintings
I Look Deeply Into Wondering
'From Where Does That Movement Come?'
There Are Those Who Read & Understand
And Those Who Live The Meaning
All I Can Say Is This
No One…

“Knowing the world ends
when I exhale my last breath

Bob Markman
Hello Friends.
My name is Kaveen Hutchison. I was a colleague and friend of Bob Markman. Actually, I met Bob while in graduate school and had the good fortune to have him be my mentor for many years, a role which evolved into a friendship I am tremendously grateful for. I imagine that most of you have similar feelings, for…

Dear friends,
It has been over five weeks and I am still at a loss for words. What happened is so enormous for me that I can only afford a glance at a time. If I were to allow in all that wants to come right this minute, I would drown in sorrow and maybe self pity and I know Avi would call it bad poetry and none of us wants to be on his "bad poets" list...
The truth is that (I make it up as I go...) my magical, custom-fitted playmate is gone and it is very, very sad. Yes he left…

In the Present, HereNow
A man who is aware cannot move in the past, because it is no more.
A man who is aware cannot move in the future, because it is not yet.
A man who is aware lives in the present, herenow.
Here is his only space, and now is his only time.
And because he is only herenow, time as such disappears.
Eternity is born, timelessness is…

The main things after 25 years...That most of us fear death and lot of us are asleep. That we die how we live..Practice scrupulous self care..attachment can be addiction. It is our birthright to love ourselves just because we are here amd just as we are..Taking care of ourselves is taking care of our family;partner,children,grandchildren,friends,pets..We are here to enjoy all of this on Earth..We are here to laugh, have a good time, to play.. most all relationships take some work..That we do…

Hi,
Here are a few more of Avi's haiku. Enjoy.
Whether winter comes
of course is not the question.
How to keep warm is.
The truth of it all
I'm making up as I go.
How do you do it?
What I understand
is not what you understand,
Do you understand?
That's not how it was!
I shout frustrated and mad.
as if "was" was.
Going on with life
is extremely dangerous,
while looking…
