TO BEING HUMAN
An Evening of Spiritual Poetry
with Kaveen Hutchison
Through their poems the mystics express the feeling of waking up as a celebration of Life. They describe a relationship that is not based on circumstantial preference and an open experience that is not in denial of pain or exalting of some other worldly blissful state but inclusive of all aspects of our humanness. These poems share the experiential feeling of the mystic and give suggestions as to how we can open to it and remember it in our daily lives. The poems come from a variety of spiritual traditions—Zen, Sufi, Taoist, Christian—yet there seems to be a consistent message throughout them in the acceptance of our humanness. The paradox is that in accepting ourselves as we are there is a deeper experience of life itself.
